One other observation I would make is that the Democrats and Republicans also work as a jab-cross combination on economic policy: despite the rhetoric in the Democratic Party, both parties have been in a mad rush to deregulate anything having to do with finance. The Dodd-Frank Bill regulated some small-town banks, but unleashed the hounds on Wall Street. The two parties also have a 50 year record of collaboration on infrastructure, or rather, ensuring the lack thereof; it’s an unholy alliance of Republican budget-cutters and Democratic “environmentalists.”
